echoes of some past

i fall too
  easily
    at the mention of
s  c  a  r  s
s  c  a  r  s
s  c  a  r  s
s  c  a  r  s
s  c  a  r  s
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
(s  c  a  r  s)
    an ocean
         too shallow
              to drown in
                    too deep
                        to swim through
                                too cold
                                    to fall into

recovery sounds like
bells in an ivory tower
echoes too loud to
ignore even though
my temples are
beating in rhythm with
your clapping hands
your chattering teeth
your cracking bones
which is to say my
head is a fire pit
ready to welcome you
